Frederic Leighton was a painter and illustrator of 19th century neoclassicism. During his lifetime, he was held in high esteem by his peers, his paintings were very popular and sold for very high prices. In 1837 he was knighted by Queen Victoria. Leighton’s artworks show idealised portrayals of young women in historical, ancient or biblical settings. In buying his art, you buy into classical beauty that brightens every room. Printed on canvas, his paintings are especially riveting because it gives them an air of authenticity.
