Spending time in natural surroundings regularly is not just recreation and inspiration for me, but is a necessity in order to lead a balanced life. For me, nature photography is the ideal occupation, as I can thus live out my creativity and grapple with technology (that whole big toy!) and in the process, still experience beautiful moments in nature as well.

Rainer Mirau

I was born in 1976 in Vienna and have lived since my early childhood in Baden, an idyllic small town on the edge of the Vienna Forest. In my youth, I often travelled with a backpack and a tent. Now, I am often on the road (preferably with my girlfriend and my dog) in my camping van in the Alps and in Northern Europe.

My interest in landscape photography was awakened by my first trips to Scandinavia. With my father‘s Olympus OM-1 and through studying various books by photographers such as Andreas Feininger, Ansel Adams or Fritz Pölking, I learned the rules of photography time after time. Then, during my time as a student, I started filing my medium format slides. However, that activity was soon curtailed again by the high costs and I devoted my free time to sport for several years. In 2005, I rediscovered my passion for photography and have pursued it since then with a lot of energy and joy.

Numerous publications and successes in international competitions motivate me to continue on my path as a photographer.
