Władysław Podkowiński was a Polish painter and draughtsman. After discovering impressionism during a stay in Paris, he was considered one of the forerunners of Polish impressionism. He mainly created landscapes, portraits and works with a symbolic character. Podkowiński’s most famous works include the painting ‘Ecstasy’, which was scandalous at the time and which the artist himself damaged at an exhibition.
